Ohio's Mr. Basketball 2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Northland High School center Jared Sullinger has been named Ohio's Mr. Basketball for the second consecutive year, the Associated Press announced Wednesday.
Sullinger, who will play at Ohio State next season, said he appreciated the honor but would trade it in a heart beat to be at the state tournament.
Northland fell in a regional final last week to Gahanna, 71-45.
"I would do anything for that win," Sullinger said. "It kind of hit home that we lost, but that's life. I'm rooting for Gahanna. So long as they win it, I'm fine."
Sullinger said it was bittersweet saying farewell to Northland High School, but looked forward to playing for the Buckeyes.
"I'm seeing the stop sign. It says, 'Stop, you're done with Northland,'" Sullinger said. "Now I'm getting the green light that says, 'Go to Ohio State.' It's amazing."
Only five players in state history have earned the title Mr. Basketball multiple times.
That list includes current NBA players O.J. Mayo and LeBron James, and former Buckeyes Greg Simpson and Jimmy Jackson.
