The principle of leaving no man behind - no matter the cost - has been deeply embedded in the U.S. Military forever. And while the running joke for years has been no weddings, birthdays, new babies, etc. around State, the fact of the matter is that with this group, family ALWAYS comes first.
Jake, as many of you may know, is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday, March 26th in Michigan. More detailed information was provided via Jake's Facebook page last month:
"In the first part of October, I began experiencing numbness in my left lip and tongue. I thought that it was an allergic reaction to something, but I realized that was not the issue. I went to the next obvious thing, which is lifting weights. I thought maybe I had a pulled muscle that may have been pinching a nerve. I went to the doctor and he prescribed flexural and predisone for tight muscles. I took all of the prescription medications and it did not fix the numbness, so I went back and the doctor scheduled an MRI.
I went for the MRI on Friday and they called me on the following Monday and told me that they found a growth, specifically, an acoustic neuroma. It's a benign tumor located in the left side of my head and it typically starts growing on the auditory nerve. I've had test ran to determine my level of function remaining in my left ear and the balance on my left side and both have been impacted. The doctor believes that the symptoms have gone unnoticed due to the fact that I'm athletic and keep myself in shape. My hearing is reduced and my balance is not good on the left side, but I've compensated over the last few months. I continue lifting weights and cardio, which is not an issue.
Surgery is scheduled for March 26. They will go in and remove the tumor. I'll keep you updated as things progress and how surgery went. Prayers are always welcomed. "
In a show of support and so that family members can be present for Jake's surgery, this year's pre-state dinner and all Thursday activities have been canceled. This is an extremely small sacrifice to make in order to be there for one of the family. Jake has been a regular at State for many years will be missed at this year's tournament. Jake first starting attending the state tournament back in 2001 and has been a regular attendee every year since. Aside from his love for kettle corn, Jake is most notably known for joining up with the gang Friday afternoon and donating his singles to the rest of us for the points and attendance pots!
We will all be keeping Jake in our prayers that weekend and in the weeks and months following as he recovers from surgery. We wish Jake a speedy recovery and will all be looking forward to having him re-join us in 2016. Jake, your first bag of kettle corn is on me next year!

MC's HSBU team has always been about efficiency and innovation. That is why in 2008 MC's HSBU partnered with Weebly Web Creations to develop a website that would serve as the central hub for everything State Tournament. In 2010 MC's HSBU joined forces with the consulting firm Defrancesco Statistics LLC to compile and organize points and attendance records. Recognized as an industry leader on the cutting edge of new technology, James Defrancesco, Director of Technology Operations began testing and piloting his new Electronic Points and Attendance System (E.P.A.S.) to further streamline the submission and data collection process. The new EPAS system made its debut last year and was a huge success! We are pleased to announce that EPAS is back for 2015 and will be up and running for all 3 days of the tournament! In case you need a refresher on how it works, here are the details:
